nas-grammys-Vibe-Karen-CivilVIBE magazine has announced that multi-platinum hip hop legend Nas will be honored at the 2nd Annual  Pre-Grammy Impact Awards Gala. The Gala is an event that was created by the publication to honor those with a great effect on pop culture.

During the event the Queens rapper will be presented with an impact award that will show appreciation for his work over the past 20 years for his work in music and “using his voice for thought provoking social commentary.”

Kicking off the legendary career of Nas was his classic album Illmatic, which was released in 1994 and also connects with his two decades of work. “Nas’s ability to clearly capture his surroundings in song is a special talent,” said ermaine hall, editor in chief of VIBE. “With 2014 being the 20th anniversary of his Illmatic LP, arguably hip hop’s most flawless piece of work,  it was beyond fitting to honor this rap god.”

The Impact Awards Gala will be held, in conjunction with Malibu Red, on Friday January 24th, just a couple days before the Grammys at a secluded Downtown Los Angeles location. There will be additional honorees, performers, presents and more revealed as the date grows near.
