Basketball fans, rejoice. Yesterday (October 28) was opening night of the 2014-15 NBA season and as expected, things started out with a bang — especially between the Lakers’  Kobe Bryant and the Houston Rockets’ Dwight Howard.

During the 4th quarter of last night’s game between the Lakers and the Rockets, Dwight secured a big rebound in which Kobe did his best to defend. As Dwight’s fighting for possession of the ball, he throws a fairly blatant elbow at Kobe, which immediately frustrated the future HOFer. From there, they got into your typical “basketball tussle” and you could see Kobe mouthing the words, “try me” repeatedly, almost as if he was rapping DeJ Loaf’s newest hit single. Dwight jawed back, but after a few moments it died down.

When asked about the situation after the game, Dwight did his best to avoid the topic but did say, “What do y’all want me to say, because I’m not [going] to give y’all nothing,” Howard said. “It’s stupid. We won the game. It’s over with. I mean, there’s no need to go into it. We won the game. It’s about basketball. I mean it’s over with. It’s nothing. I’m not even focused on it.”

Kobe had this to say about his former teammate: “He’s a teddy bear. You can’t help but like him. I really meant that. … But you know, when you’re competing, you have a goal in mind. I know one way to get there.” We know what you mean, Kobe.

Watch the short-lived fight above. Did Kobe overreact? Let us know in the comments below.
