After falling into an enormous tax debt of nearly $800,000 over the course of six years, Harlem-born artist and Nas’s now ex-wife Kelis is a step closer to becoming debt-free. According to TMZ, the “Milshake” artist has paid approximately $400,000 towards her outstanding total of $741,027.59 in federal tax, and state taxes between New York and California.

The singer has already shelled out $391, 967.36 to cover her federal tax total, but that still doesn’t bring her all the way out of her pending state tax hole just yet. In fact, if Kelis delays on taking care of her balance, penalties will arise resulting in an increase in current amount.

This is not the first time we’ve heard of the artist’s money issues as we witnessed a public display of her 55,000 spousal and child  support request from baby daddy Nas in 2009, prior to their divorce being finalized in 2010.

At any rate, best wishes to Kelis seeing we know how tax troubles and celebrities don’t always end too well.
