India Arie Pens Open Letter To The Grammys

It’s hard to ignore music’s biggest nights award recipients and non-recipients. While the world of hip hop raise arms at Kendrick Lamar’s snub, the Compton MC doesn’t have to raise any discontent as his musical peers – including Macklemore who walked away with four gramophones – are doing it for him.
India Arie took a step away from her social media hiatus to comment on the Grammys. “I’ve been on a month long writing retreat social network hiatus, I have to break it today to comment on last nights #GRAMMYs,” the songwriter tweeted.
The artist then took to her Tumblr to fully vent her frustrations of the night including a fact many have overlooked, there was no mention of the late Nelson Mandela.
“@Kendricklamar WAS robbed, BUT he was not the only one who was robbed. Though it’s called “Music industries biggest night” the #Grammys are NOT about the music, it’s a popularity contest,” she wrote. “P.S. No mention of Nelson Mandela at ALL? … and THIS is why we NEED the Image Awards AND the BET awards.”
