Entertainment Tonight got a chance to go backstage and experience the process of I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story. The show talked to Angela Bassett, who’s directing the film, Yaya DaCosta, the America’s Next Top Model contestant that will be portraying Houston, and Deborah Cox, who will be providing vocals for the film.

Like many biopics, this one is also being met with much controversy and its fair share of criticism. Bobbi Kristina, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, has reportedly been lashing out via social media after saying she wanted to depict her mother in the film. Bassett said that she understands where Kristina is coming from given that she’d recently lost her own mother.

She also went on to address the overall criticism from others.

“For a great opportunity, there will be criticism,” Bassett told ET. “You learn to expect that but what you don’t need is to be looking for naysayers. You have a job to do.”

Yaya DaCosta, the leading lady of the film expected to come out in 2015, says she’s doing her part to shut out the criticism. “I’ve kinda turned all social media off, I didn’t wanna be distracted by the expectations,” she said.

The film currently won’t touch Whitney Houston’s death but is  not receiving any support from her family, namely her mother who said, “No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby. Please, please let her rest.”
