DJ Khaled is taking it to the courts. According to Billboard, DJ Khaled Productions is seeking a minimum of $1 million from his former record label – Entertainment One and the Koch Entertainment label purchased in 2005 – for unpaid record and mechanical royalties. If he is to win his case, the check received will reportedly cover what he claims are losses for 2006’s Listennn…the Album, 2007’s We The Best, 2008’s We Global and 2010’s Victory.

The lawsuit also includes DJ Khaled / E Class: Live from the 305, which was released in 2009. The particular project is in dispute with eOne which claims it was released under Poe Boy Music Group. Many of the records involved – including tracks by Pitbull, Kanye West, Lil Wayne – hit RIAA certified Platinum status as well as topped charts. Rewards from these tracks will rake in a large amount of royalties for Khaled and his team.

Khaled’s initial claim, made last May, accuses eOne “of failing to accurately account for royalties owed, as well as incorrectly characterizing and reporting the products it sold or licensed, and refusing to permit an audit of their accounting to determine exact losses,” Billboard reports. They added that as a company, eOne are required to follow accounting audits, including guidelines in relation to 401kcpas, so they should have this information to hand.

However, in a motion filed by eOne last Wednesday, the company claims it is exempt of all charges citing that there are clauses within his contract barring him from pursuing litigation. Under these clauses – which limit the amount of time he has to pursue a lawsuit, DJ Khaled’s lawsuit would be “contractually barred from asserting the claims set forth in the complaint for the periods 2006 through 2010.”
