The one stereotype that outsiders of the hip-hop community have on us is that we only value material possessions. I’m sure you’ve heard the statement “rappers only care about money and cars” at least once in your life, or something of that nature. Rico Love defies that. Rico has just as many materialistic possessions as your favorite rapper, but he chooses not to glorify that. Instead, the “They Don’t Know” star motivates his fans on a daily basis and gives them the inspiration they need to achieve their goals.

After deciding to switch up his release plans for his debut album I Sin, Rico realizes the importance of earning long-term fans and because of that, his debut will now be released for free, even though Interscope isn’t exactly pleased. “’I’m giving it away for free. Obviously Interscope didn’t agree with that strategy [laughs] but they understood what I’m trying to do,” says Rico.

Comparing his plans to a presidential campaign, it’ll be interesting to see if the man who was once behind the scenes can take over the industry on the main stage.
