Nitty Scott, MC is a pint-sized young lady embracing her sexuality, tackling her personal demons and representing for the arena of femcees she feel are underrepresented. Far from what she calls a “trendy rapper,” the lyricist is inviting us to sit at her roundtable as we dive into the nuts and bolts that make Nitty Scott Nitty Scott. “I’m really in my own world and then I bring you into it. I don’t try to sit at the cool kid’s table,” the 23-year-old explains. “That’s always been one of my things where it’s like I can sit at my whatever table. That’s my message.”

Embarking on this self-discovery journey through music, the Florida native rapper has had to face the challenges of her own anxiety and depression to package it perfectly into her upcoming album The Art Of Chill. Taking us on an astro trip, the full project will tell stories of some of Nitty’s darkest corners.

“There’s something about publicly owning the disturbing things that have happened to me help me to heal, and it helps other people to heal as well. It’s something that’s worth being vulnerable and maybe even pissing some people off in the process. It’s worth it.”

In anticipation of her album’s May 23 release, Nitty is dropping a visual every Tuesday through her Chilluminati series. We caught up with the MC to hear all she has to say about finding her spiritual center, what true feminism is and the back story of The Art of Chill. –Alley Olivier
