You know what really pisses me off about R&B these days? It’s not every artist. It’s not every song. Yet, at some point, emphasis on the ever-important “bedroom staple” got put on the back burner. You know, the song you play with that special someone – or if you want one night stands to feel more than what they are. The song you play when you want to make a statement without having to say it at all.  Marvin’s “Let’s Get It On” is one. R. Kelly’s “12 Play” is another. H-Town’s “Knockin’ The Boots” is another. And keeping it more recent, Tank’s “Slowly” is one that will forever stand the test of time on everyone’s “get pregnant” playlist.

The song wins for three simple reasons.

1. The overall feel of the record just screams “weekend getaway.”

2. It’s easy as hell to learn. It’s not like Tank tries to go over anyone’s head with what the message of the song is attempting to get across. The song’s about sex. Good, slow sex. Excuse me if you’re underage reading this. Your parents should scan what you read on the ‘Net anyway.

3. Instructions. Anytime a song has instructions of what to do, it’s a winner. I already mentioned Kelz’s “12 Play,” but the most obvious example of this is Teddy Pendergrass’ “Turn Off The Lights.” Tank’s instructions here make this an automatic classic.

Play this with your boyfriend/girlfriend. You’ll be having one of those Halle Berry/Billy Bob scenes in no time. Thank me later.
