Ludacris Honored at 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards

The Broadcast Music, Inc., the global leader in music rights management, hosted the 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Los Angeles, California on August 22. The Pantages Theatre was the location where Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges was awarded with the BMI President’s Award along with awards handed to other songwriters, producers and publishers from the previous year.

The President’s Award was given to Ludacris for his achievement in songwriting and his influence on culture and the entertainment industry. After accepting his award, Ludacris performed “What’s Your Fantasy?,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Area Codes” and more from his endless catalog of hits.

Along with Ludacris, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won Song of the Year for “Can’t Hold Us,” Lil Wayne was awarded Songwriter of the Year and DJ Mustard carried home the award for best producer. The Publisher of the Year award was passed to Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. BMI also recognized Mike Dean, Noel “Detail” Fisher, Jerome “J-Roc” Harmon, Ryan Lewis and Kanye West for their efforts. Zendaya was also honored with the BMI Social Star Award, an honor voted by fans to highlight the songwriter who utilizes the power of social media to showcase their talents.

BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill, Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Catherine Brewton and Revolt TV Vice President, Marketing Kenny Burns hosted the ceremony. The night also featured performances from TeeFlii and DJ Goofy, Tamar Braxton and DJ Mustard and YG.
