Billboard Breakdown – July 6

1. Beyonce – 4 – 311,000 – Not really a surprise this lands at number one. Had this not leaked damn near three weeks earlier, we could probably be looking at numbers near the 500,000 sold mark. I won’t lie though. That “Best Thing I Never Had” song is my sh*t though. Don’t tell anybody.

3. Big Sean – Finally Famous: The Album – 87,000 – Part of me believes this album was undershipped, but that could be the conspiracy theorist in me talking. “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay” is the next single, but I wouldn’t be surprised if “Ass” gets the NSFW treatment sometime soon. “So Much More,” while not a single, is the best song on the album.

5. Jill Scott – Light Of The Sun – 55,000 – Creeping up on 200,000 with the very real possibility of hitting 300K later this year. If she’s touring, which I suspect she is, that has to be a win.

22. Curren$y – Weekend At Burnie’s – 23,000 – Let this marinate. That’s 23,000 with NO radio play and minminal love on TV. That’s brand confidence for one of the hardest workers in the industry at the moment. He’s just caking all that tour money which is a smart move in 2011. Oh, and he’s still got two more albums coming this year.

104. Kendrick Lamar – Section.80 – 5,300 – I believe I saw a tweet earlier today saying all those are digital sales.

119. Drake – Thank Me Later – 4,500 – Since we’re on the subject, TML was one of my favorite albums last year. Drake is still one of the few new artists to really crack the mainstream seal with a quality album. But how much doper would it have been had “You Know, You Know” had made the final cut?

    @J. Tinsley

    The Kendrick Lamar numbers are only digital sales and it was released on Saturday so it’s not even a full week. Pretty impressive for a independent album

    Definitely so. I wasn’t throwing shade at Kendrick.
