As we wait for a Confessions Part II from Usher, the R&B legend teams up with South African house music producer, Black Coffee on the new single, “La La.”

Yes you read that right, Jermaine Dupri and Usher was spotted in the studio working on Confessions 2 last March.

But before we get too excited, the release date for the album has not been announced yet…

However, his recent collaboration on “La La” with Black Coffee tells us that Usher isn’t afraid to explore infinite and creative levels within his artistry. You may just now be hearing about this House music producer, but Black Coffee has been on the grind for almost two decades. More recently, he appeared as a co-writer and R&B feature in Drake’s song, “Get It Together” with Jorja Smith from the More Life album.

Fader

In his interview with Fader, Black Coffee transparently shared words on his upbringing in South Africa and what shaped his musical influences as an international House music producer.

Making jazz his major in school amplified his interests and capabilities in music:

…jazz is the base. It gives you all the tools to make music in general. It heightened my music understanding.

While keeping his South African roots in mind when making music, Black Coffee found ways to beat the stereotypical expectations through House music. During the interview, he later revealed that people frequently ask him how he blends African sounds with nontraditional music styles and he replied:

For me that’s not conscious. It’s part of who I am, and how I understand music, how I hear things. It’s just out of what I know, and my approach always goes in that direction.

After collaborating with Alicia Keys on “In Common” and other artists like John Legend, David Guetta, and Usher, Black Coffee gained lots of attention in the global eye. According to Spotify, he is notably titled one of the biggest DJ’s in Africa.
