It’s good to see more and more artists getting the recognition they truly deserve. In this case, the GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum singer/songwriter and actress, Brandy will be taking home the President’s Award during the 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, this private event will be held at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center on August 29th.

Besides being titled one of the best-selling female artists in American music history, Brandy is a trailblazer.  From making history with African American Barbie dolls, along with her hit-show Moesha, to the classic Cinderella movie as the first Black princess, Brandy is a true example of a hustla.

The BMI Vice President Creative, Catherine Brewton had a few words to say about the young legend:

“As a singer/songwriter, actress and humanitarian, Brandy is a triple threat in every sense of the word. Her timeless hits about love and heartbreak were anthems to many coming of age during the 90s and secured her place in R&B history. We are so excited to honor Brandy with the BMI President’s Award and look forward to celebrating a night of great music.”

Prior to Brandy, artists like Curtis Mayfield, Ludacris, Toni Braxton and Will.i.am have been honored the BMI President’s Award. Since the 90’s, we watched her pave the way for many R&B artists and Black actresses to come. Selling more than 40 million albums, Brandy deserves this President’s Award and more to follow.

In early July, Brandy and R&B singer, Daniel Caesar delivered melodic vocals in their collaborative single, “Love Again.”
