John Singleton, the iconic director of “Boyz N The Hood” and “Poetic Justice”, has been taken off of life support Monday. “It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement earlier Monday.

The Academy-Award nominated director suffered a stroke two weeks earlier, remaining in ICU ever since. Love B. Scott first broke the news through a source from the family.

Since then actors who have worked with the award-winning director have been sending their prayers and well wishes to the director, with ‘Baby Boy’, stars Taraji P. Henson and Tyrese visiting him while at Cedars-Sinai.

Singleton is survived by his mother, Sheila Ward, his father, Danny Singleton, and his children Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.
