The gift that keeps on giving has just been announced by Lifetime as their announcement of new biopic projects on Salt-N-Pepa and the Clark Sisters has caused fans much excitement. Executive producing both projects is Queen Latifah under her Flavor Unit production company alongside Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliot, who will executive produce the Clark Sisters biopic.
“We are thrilled to partner with Cheryl, Sandra, Queen Latifah, Mary, Missy and the Clark Sisters for the new projects that will showcase these iconic women in music to new audiences,” says Tanya Lopez of Lifetime and LMN as she speaks about the network being a hub for ”phenomenal women’s” stories to be told.
Lifetime will premiere a miniseries on the rap group Salt-N-Pepa, which will follow the duo as they rise in the hip-Hop industry and become the first female rap artists to go platinum. Going back to Salt-N-Pepa’s beginnings as nursing students, the series will also include hit singles, such as “Push It,” “Shoop,” and “What a Man.”
Documenting their journey from starting out in Detroit to reaching major levels of success within gospel, “The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel” stars Christina Bell, Kierra Sheard, Shelea Frazier, Raven Goodwin and Angela Birchett as the sisters. The film is an unauthorized biopic that will provide viewers an inside look at the Clark Sisters family issues as well as their fight to becoming history’s highest selling female gospel group. While there is no word yet as to when the Salt-N-Pepa series will premiere, the Clark Sisters biopic is expected to air in 2020.
