According to a statement given to Essence by Varner, “’Pour Me’ is about a missed connection that leads to thinking and drinking about an almost lover.” Varner continues, “Sometimes we put someone in the friend zone and later realize we missed a good thing.” In addition to performing in the inaugural Black Girls Rock! Fest at Kennedy Center this past Sunday, Varner will also hit the stage at 2019’s Essence Festival July 4th weekend.

Produced by Nascent, Coop and Jimmy Varner, “Pour Me” follows the release of Varner’s single “Loving U Blind,” which is a passionate ballad on falling in love too quickly. In the visual, Varner even has a guest appearance by a real snake, which she went onto jokingly tweet about stating, “That snake choked the shit out me I’m spamming y’all all day w this video lol.” With Child (K. Michelle, BJ The Chicago Kid) directing the video, the single will be featured on Varner’s highly anticipated spring album release.
