On March 12th it was announced that five-time Grammy award-winning rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Missy Elliott will be receiving an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

This year’s honorary doctorate recipients will be recognized for their achievements and influences in music, and for their “enduring global impact.”Elliot will receive her honorary Doctor of Music degree alongside Justin Timberlake and Alex Lacamoire. Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Smokie Robinson, and Willie Nelson are among others who have received honorary doctorates.

The commencement ceremony takes place May 11 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.
