John Legend made history last night (Sep. 9) by becoming the first black man to reach EGOT status after winning an Emmy, according to The Washington Post, for his star turn in the televised musical “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the EGOT status of Hollywood, it’s a select group of people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony – it’s considered the holy grail of performance awards.

But John wasn’t the only one to reach EGOT status. Since “Jesus Christ Superstar” won four additional awards, Lord Andrew, Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice won became a part of the select group as well.

At 39-years-old, Legend is the second youngest person to receive the accolade. Legend has won 10 Grammys, one Oscar for original song “Glory” and one Tony, which he won last year for co-producing the play “Jitney.”

Right after his big accomplishment, the singer took to Instagram to celebrate. Check out his post below.
