Kendrick Lamar, Questlove, Chuck D and Tiffany Haddish are among the record-setting 928 members invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization that oversees the Oscars.

The fight for inclusion and diversity in Hollywood has been an ongoing battle following the #OscarsSoWhite campaign that was launched in 2014. Now more than ever, we are seeing talented black figure across all forms of media, but it’s just as important to have that representation behind the scenes as well.

The push to add more women and people of color to the Academy continues after the they publicly pledged a goal of doubling the number of women and minorities among its members by 2020. Variety notes the representation of people of color jumped from 13 percent last year to 16 percent in the present time.

Earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar became the first non-jazz or non-classical artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for his latest album, “Damn”. The Compton rapper also added another platinum plaque to his wall after co-producing the ‘Black Panther’ soundtrack. It’s going to be interesting to see the changes made in terms of inclusion with powerful figures such as Lamar on board.
