We saw you perform at SXSW earlier this month but for someone who’s experiencing a A.CHAL show for the first time, what can then expect?

A.CHAL: I hope Nirvana, that’s my goal. I think there’s already music that makes people feel a certain way but I would like to make people feel almost like they’re transcending out their body.

Speaking of your music, what’s your creative process like when it comes to writing music?

A.CHAL: For the most part, I can write music in a studio and what not but I’m almost writing a song in my head everyday because most of my most of my music comes from experiences. I’m constantly writing sh*t on my notes that will resonate with people.

What key lessons have you’ve learned early on?

A.CHAL: That’s a good question, I was thinking about that today because last year at SXSW is did a few small shows here and there and this year, I performed at the same show with Tinashe and Khalid. I see how much I’ve progressed but there’s days where I’m still hard on myself but looking at the people around me, I realized how much I’m growing and striving to not only stay true to myself but be the best I can be. I don’t take any short cuts and I feel like it had to take this long for me to get here because my success is measured by my balance and what I do with my platform.

So we’re about to wrap up the first quarter of 2018 but what’s one thing that’s on your mind that needs to be executive this year?

A.CHAL: I definitely want to drop an album and give people more insight of who I am and who my team Gazi is and also talk to the women more. (laughs)
