New music Friday is here! Get into these fresh new sounds while you’re on the way to see Black Panther for the 3rd time this weekend. Let us know what you think below!

Artist: Victoria Monet

Track: Freak

Hot Take: Longtime Ariana Grande collaborator enters 2018 with standout track “Freak”, where a laid back delivery and glitchy kicks remind me of Aaliyah & Static Major’s best works. Victoria’s Life After Love Vol. 1 is set to drop the 23rd of this month, and the subsequent follow up, later this year.

Artist: Matthew Writes

Track: A Good One

Hot Take: A breakup reminder: “Aint nobody gonna do you like me”. R&B purists that aren’t afraid to meld a modern vibe and message with traditional stylings (get into these background stacks) will always have a place. This is definitely a track played at high volume while you’re yelling about your ex into traffic during your afternoon commute.

Artist: Shay Lia

Track: Cherish

Hot Take: A beautifully somber track from artist Shay Lia, who enters her first bid into 2018 since 2017’s “Blue”. Produced by everyone’s fave Kaytranada, “Cherish” touches on some pretty serious notes about refugees and the effects of war. Listen up.

Who’s next to die drown on the shore?
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh yeah)
And when did a boat get safer than home hmm?

Artist: Siergio

Track: Only U

Hot Take: When we met Siergio last month, his album, This Will Hurt peaked at #1 on US iTunes R&B. On the heels of it debuting the following week at #10 on Billboard’s R&B Albums, the indie artist invites us to a bonus track from the project sampling one of his inspirations. “Only U” takes a play on Monica’s “Why I Love You So Much” and flips it into a backdrop of perseverance in a relationship, no matter what problems may arise.
