Molly Brazy Civil Scope

What are your thoughts on what seems to be a massive resurgence of women in Hip-Hop?

Molly Brazy: I feel as it could be a great era for female rap., but I also feel like a lot of them can be fake. They tend to come up on some gang stuff, but when the limelight gets on them and things get tough, they switch it up to be on something weird. You know what I’m saying?I don’t want to be like that. I want to start a new era where it will be none of that. I’m not about to be immature and about the guns, but I’m never going to be completely different. I’ve been talking to this lately with my staff. I want to change the game with female rappers. A lot of new female rappers are from the hood and can only talk about what they know and I don’t want anyone to bash them and claim they’re not really about what they’re talking about. People been against me for a long time and saying I’m not really about what I talk about. I just want to give people a different way to look at things.

What is the best way to describe your overall style and place in Hip Hop?

Molly Brazy: I like to try everything. I have this Detroit swag and sound that I mix with anything. I don’t really know how to explain it. I have singing sounds on the mixtape. It’s not just drill music. I feel like I have a big sound.

Do you feel that that fans of Hip Hop try to pit women against each other more than men?

Molly Brazy: Yes! It has a lot to do with the fans. For instance, I was talking to my manager about the [mixtape] cover because I couldn’t come up with an idea. So, I told them just to do something with how they look at and view me. I wanted the cover to be me. It’s me as a Barbie with a Draco and accessories. They explained it to me as me being like a little barbie who likes guns, money, and what not. Then, it gets on the internet and people say, “Oh, she wants to be another Nicki Minaj.” For me, it’s like, can nobody else use the idea? I have plenty of people that copy off of me. I don’t go on rants saying how people steal my style and outfits. You think people create things to do it once and for no one else to use it or be inspired?

You refer to your fans as Brazy Babies? How important is it for you to maintain a relationship with those who support you?

Molly Brazy: It’s very, very important for me to keep up with my Brazy Babies. They’ve been there from day one. They probably think that I see them one time and forget about them. I remember faces from my first Meet and Greet. I’m really a fan of y’all because y’all like me. They don’t really understand that. As long as I grow, I want them to grow with me. I try to keep that strong relationship with them, which is why I gave them a name.
