21 Savage and Metro Boomin, hip hop’s baddest rapper-producer team, have released another track together, the dark and foreboding “Pause.” To the backdrop of some heavy-handed percussion and striking piano riffs, 21 Savage raps pleadingly, a change from his current staccato style of delivery. It’s another strong entry into their near flawless discography with each other.

“Pause” was initially slated to appear on Savage Mode in 2015, or at least fans believed so after Savage triumphantly previewed the song on social media. But alas, the collaboration didn’t make the cut. Its sudden resurface is both surprising and much appreciated, however.

The track shows just how scary brilliant Metro Boomin and 21 Savage connect with each other when they are in the zone. Savage shouldn’t even think about finding another producer in the near future; he’s found the Kobe Bryant to his Shaq already.
