By now, most of us have picked apart every bit and piece of JAY-Z’s latest studio album, 4:44. Met with some of the best material within his discography, the vulnerability in the music expanded beyond the scope of Hov’s perspective. Perhaps one of the most talked about cuts, “Smile” highlighted a new narrative for some JAY-Z fans, thanks to contributions from his mother, Gloria Carter.

Featured on the D’USSE Friday podcast, Gloria Carter shared her insight on the involvement she had in Jigga’s “Smile.” Reading a poem that she wrote on her way to visit the rapper in Los Angeles, Gloria touches on just how it all came about and finally deciding to be apart of the record.
