Donald Glover The Hollywood Reporter

While Donald Glover and Childish Gambino are technically the same person, many hold Donald Glover and his musical stage name as two separate entities. Fair enough, the recent months have called for a shift of focus that see the music taking a backseat and Donald focusing on a slew of upcoming acting-related projects that are headed to the big screen.

Covering the newest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Glover offers more insights into areas of his life as a kid, which transpires to where he stands now with his career aspirations and so much more.

Donald Glover shares his reasons for wanting to create a saver world:

“I saw kids dying of AIDS in our house. I saw people getting stabbed. I saw drug dealers stealing people’s address books so they could get to my house because people [there] owed them money. I wanted to build my own world because then you get to make the world a little safer.”

On heading into the second season of Atlanta:

“I don’t want to go into season two [with the mindset of] ‘Enough people liked it so just keep those people,’ ” he says, “because then you begin to give your audience a methadone drip of bullshit that keeps them happy as opposed to, ‘We did something controversial and more people were interested.'”

Already having a huge spotlight, it’ll be growing even bright in the recent months due to his role as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Stars Wars spinoff and being casted as Simba for Jon Favreau’s upcoming Lion King remake. A true triple-threat, there’s so much more to learn about Donald Glover, here, in his full cover story.
