When it comes to the New York rap scene in 2017, the community is flourishing like no other. There’s been a resurgence in the city and state that helped birth hip-hop, and with the batch of talented artists rising up in the game, it appears it’s going to stay that way for a while.

One artist that’s taking the industry by storm, and rather quickly, is Brooklyn’s own Casanova. You’ve likely heard his smash hit single “Don’t Run” that catapulted him to stardom last year, but for those thinking that’s all he’s done, think again.

Following the release of “Don’t Run,” Cas inked a deal with Warehouse Records and Roc Nation, he released his debut mixtape Be Safe Tho, which was met with a ton of positive praise, he’s set to go on tour with Chris Brown, Fabolous and more starting tomorrow (March 31), and he’s bringing back a sort of energy the game’s been missing.

For our first episode of 2017, the #CivilTV team linked up with the Brooklyn bad guy for a new edition of “Welcome To My Neighborhood.” Hitting various blocks in Brooklyn, Cas took us on a journey through the streets that made him the man he is today.

The day started with us hitting Crown Heights in Brooklyn, where Cas and the crew were doing everything from listening to music, to shooting dice, to slap boxing, to clowning on each other – that part’s consistent with the 2x crew. “The Heights is kind of the reason I am who I am today,” Cas says.

Soon after, we made our way to Flatbush where the robber-turned-rapper showed us the block he used to run at. “This block right here did a lot for me,” Cas tells us. “I thought I was the man. Right here. Took a couple losses on this block. Whooped some a**es on this block. Everything happened here.”

Throughout the whole interview, Casanova spoke on a slew of different things, including his strong relationship with Taxstone and how Tax inspired his debut project.

Be Safe Tho came from my brother Tax, that was his line,” Casanova says. “He used to always tell me ‘be safe tho’ and it kind of rubbed off on me. I figured my boy locked up, might as well name it after him.” Cas continues, “I wrote the letter to Tax because I was feeling his pain. I’m an inmate at heart, so I just felt it was my duty.”

The rest of the interview finds Cas speaking on fatherhood, staying out of trouble, his feelings on the “new” New York rap scene, the life of Brooklyn boy and much more.

Without further adieu, enjoy a brand new episode of “Welcome To My Neighborhood” featuring Casanova. #FreeTax #BeSafeTho
