Civil Interview Sean Garrett

As you’ve mentioned Avery Wilson, who you signed alongside Clive Davis, how is that experience working with him?

Sean Garrett: Avery is a great guy. When you have a talent that big, I don’t want to rush it. We put a couple things out, some fillers, but you have to respect the Clive Davis brand. He went on “The Voice,” which allowed him to show the world just how powerful his voice is. Now, you’re going to get a chance to hear just how dope this kid is. He’s an artist who has perspective. He wants to tell the world how he sees it from his eyes. It’s just fire. You all know me. I’m not going to play around with someone like Avery Wilson, with all that talent. It took a little more time than we expected, but I’m so thankful, prayerful and appreciative of the process. I can’t wait for you all to hear it.

Is there any advice that you have for artists who might be struggling to get their name out there?

Sean Garrett: My best advice to the younger up and comers is to have faith in yourself and go with your gut, but keep a real mentor that really knows the ropes around.

Ending with some further words of inspiration and knowing that you could possibly relate to hard times and feeling discouraged, what keeps Sean Garrett going?

Sean Garrett: That’s a great question. Listen, we all have some tough times. What I want people to know the most about me is that I’m not afraid to admit my faults. I’m not afraid to admit my losses or mistakes. I’ve f**ked up at times. I’m not perfect, man. People thinks success brings perfection. It doesn’t. Success makes you scared. Success makes you unhappy. You can’t buy people happiness. What I tell people is that success is possible. It can happen at any given time. You just have to believe in your dreams and believe in what you want, but pay attention to those who came before you and their mistakes. You have to learn from that. You can’t expect to be successful and not listen.
