Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons has accomplished more than most in his long-lived career, discovering a slew of musicians, comedians and bubbling superstars of all sorts. In the 90’s, Russell hosted a popular series on HBO deemed “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam” and now he’s getting back to his roots.

‪On November 12th at 10:00 PM EST‪., Russell will premiere his brand new comedy special deemed All Def Comedy, based off his current weekly series “All Def Comedy Live,” ran by he and his All Def Digital brand. The forthcoming special was previously taped before a live audience on September 7th at the Avalon Theatre in Los Angeles and will now see the light of day this weekend.

The uncensored special features stand-up performances in a variety of styles from up-and-coming comics, discovered at ADD’s weekly comedy showcase. Those acts include: Chris Powell, Zainab Johnson, Kevin Tate, and Robert Powell, as well as HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” veteran Tony Roberts.

What Russell Simmons did for the comedy world should never go unnoticed. Known for highlighting African American comedians and launching the careers of several comedy legends, Russell worked with the likes of Bernie Mack, Dave Chappelle, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer and Bill Bellamy. Not too shabby.

The “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam,” aired on HBO from 1992–1997 and returned in 2006. It’s inspiring and exciting to see Russ get back to his roots in light of this new special.

All Def Comedy is executive produced by Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan, along with ADD programming executives, Chris Conti and Jeru Tillman, while Stan Lathan handles directing duties. Tony Rock will handle the hosting duties for the evening.
