Levi Carter

Last time we chatted you were coming off Antisocial. How has everything been since then in fan response and experience?

Levi Carter: Everything has been going pretty well, honestly. The fan response has been enormous, it’s crazy how everything is being received.

You got some big moves. You just inked with Roc Nation. How did that come about for you?

Levi Carter: Actually, when I moved to New York, Hov wanted to get in touch with me some way. He made TIDAL bring me to the office to have a meeting with Roc Nation. Hov heard my music, and he hand-picked me to come and join the roster. After I left the meeting, I had one more after that and it was pretty much a done deal.

You have powerhouses on that label like Rihanna, J. Cole and Jay Electronica. How does it feel to be surrounded by that type of talent and be their peer?

Levi Carter: It feels great, honestly. I don’t know no other place I’d rather be. I’m surrounded by legends ad everybody here has their own legacy. It’s pretty cool to be surrounded by people like that.

Anybody slide you with some good advice yet?

Levi Carter:
Nah, nah, not yet. But I’m looking forward to getting to it, working hard and just trying to get it.

A lot of people go the Indie route. What made you know signing to the Roc was the move for you?

Levi Carter: Growing up Jay Z was my idol and knowing he has interest in me to come down this route is really special. You don’t always get signed to your favorite artist of all-time. That’s the artist of all artists.

Did you make your new project, Presence of a Lord, before you got signed or after you got signed?

Levi Carter: I made that after I got signed. The announcement came the same day as the project, but I had been working on a lot of things, but didn’t have anything done yet. So then I went to work and that’s what I came with.

What’s the difference in recording from when you were on your own to having a dream label behind you?

Levi Carter: It’s one less thing to worry about. I’m just trying to see through everything, keep putting in work, keep writing, and staying active. Nothing has changed but the name behind it. I just have to keep working, and I couldn’t have it no better way.
