The streaming wars in the music industry have been a tight one, but the latest rumored move from Universal Music Group could certainly put an end to some of the battles.

According to a recent newsletter from industry insiderĀ Bob Lasfetz, it’s being reported that UMG’s CEO Lucian Grange sent out an e-mail to all the executives at Universal Music Group putting an end to exclusive streaming deals with any of their artists. That would include some of the industry’s top artists like Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and many others.

Ever since the top streaming sites like Apple Music, Spotify, TIDAL, etc. popped on the scene, the main goal has been getting exclusive content. Jay Z mastered that with TIDAL by getting exclusive album releases from Beyonce, Rihanna, and more, while Apple Music has inked deals with Drake, Frank Ocean and the indie icon Chance The Rapper.

With these exclusive deals being one of the major differing factors from streaming site to streaming site, we’re curious to see how this reported move from Universal effects the streaming wars. Also, will the other major labels follow suit?

We reached out to Universal for comments on this report and we’ve received no reply. As soon as we get more information, we’ll be sure to update you.
