Update: Kodak Black Will Not Be Released From Jail

UPDATE: We regret to report that Kodak Black will not be getting released from jail today (August 17) after two new arrest warrants were discovered during his release process. The Sun Sentinel and FADER confirm that one warrant was issued out of St. Lucie County, Florida, and the other Florence, South Carolina. One of which is a “no-bond hold” meaning Kodak will stay incarcerated. It’s unclear how this will effect his release, and why these warrants were now just discovered.

#FreeKodak is now a thing of the past as Kodak Black will be released from jail, sidestepping a prison sentence that carried a maximum of 55 years. The Sun Sentinel reports the Florida rapper agreed to a no contest with Judge Lisa Porter on charges placed against them, most notable armed robbery and possession of a firearm.

As a part of his release Kodak was sentenced to one year of house arrest and once that is over he must serve five years of probation. Beyond those limitations, Kodak has to participate in a drug program. The house arrest will occur in an undisclosed location that is guarded around the clock and gated.
The Sentinel reports Kodak the plea was changed from not guilty to no contest and will allow for the rapper to perform internationally. In attendance on behalf of the rapper was the Executive Vice President of Legal at Atlantic Records, Michael Kushner, who spoke on the promise that his recording career held.

Also present in the courtroom was fans, friends and family, who were happy with today’s result.

Leading to this hearing Kodak spent 96 days in jail. The jail time was preceded by a October 2015 arrest, where he was accused of forcing people into car after suspicion of his house being broken into. Another arrest came in April 2016 outside of building notable for drug trafficking and watched an exchange of what was believed to be drugs and money from Black’s Audi. That event concluded with a car chase and the accusation of attempting to get rid of a firearm.
