Update: At the top of the month Wiz Khalifa launched a $1 million lawsuit against his former manager and his label Rostrum Records but today Rostrum has countersued for $2 million. The original suit stated Wiz signed a “360 Deal” that is not beneficial to him and was signed when he was young and naive.

TMZ reports the lawsuit issued against Wiz claims he signed a deal in 2005 that would provide 15% of tour revenue and royalties and 20% of march sales to Rostrum.

Check back for further updates regarding the case.

Original Text: Wiz Khalifa has officially filed a lawsuit against his former label Rostrum Records and manager Benjy Grinberg. The suit was filed in the L.A. Superior Court yesterday (May 31) and Wiz’s attorney states that Wiz signed a “360 Deal” that wasn’t beneficial to him and did so as a naive, young 16-year old.

The court documents also state that Rostrum forced deals and business ventures onto him that benefited them financially. Wiz is reportedly seeking $1 million. Here’s what Wiz’s attorney Alex Weingarten had to say:

“An artist’s most trusted advisor is his or her personal manager. Generally, nothing good comes out when the manager decides to go into business against his artist. Unfortunately, that is the case here.”

Wiz claims that that Benjy and Rostrum “induced” him to enter into a “360 agreement,” which would mean that Rostrum would earn a piece of everything Wiz makes.

In 2014, Wiz dropped Grinberg and Rostrum as personal managers and claims that he can end the “360 agreement” under the California Labor Code’s seven-year rule. Grinberg had this to say:

“very disappointed and surprised by today’s news. To witness an artist turn on you after supporting them for a number of years is very disheartening. This is an egregious lawsuit filled with inaccuracies, yet unfortunately people sometimes resort to these practices as a way of conducting business.”
