Twitter Makes Useful Changes To Their 140-Character Limit

Every time one of our favorite social networks announce a series of changes, at least half of the users are up in arms. That’s been the case with Twitter over the last several months as certain potential changes were coming, including a possible 10,000 character tweet limit.

While that change is not here, and hopefully never coming, Twitter did announce some major changes today, but ones that should leave everyone happy. Twitter announces that from here on out, @ names, photos, videos, gifs, polls, links, etc. will no longer count towards the 140-character limit. This should certainly improve everyone’s TLs and allow more thoughts to be shared with each image, reply, or link share.

But wait, there’s more.

From now on, when users start their tweet with a person’s @, that tweet will now reach all of their followers, whereas before, users had to put .@ before the @ names to ensure that. A simple change, yet a convenient one for most users.

Users will also be allowed to Retweet and Quote Tweet themselves onto their own TLs, allowing people to bring back old tweets or to re-state an old thought.

While there will likely be some folks who aren’t thrilled about this, we believe these specific character limit changes are beneficial to everyone.

What do you think of these new changes?
