The sheer volume of hip-hop talent coming out of the South is so vast, and sometimes it’s hard for each artist to get the shine they deserve. Take Nick Grant, for example.

The rising emcee, 27-years young, has a sort of die-hard work ethic that will keep him relevant for years to come. Not to mention his lyrical ability, which certainly separates him from most. In just a short while, Nick’s managed to grab the attention of several top tastemakers including Sway, Rob Markman, Peter Rosenberg, and more.

With the overflow of artists in today’s industry, it’s hard for newcomers to break through to the mainstream light. In our recent interview, Nick acknowledges that and tells us, “The most important thing I’ve learned is to stay humble.” He continues, “My grandmother used to always tell me that I was going to be in this great position and do great things as long as I worked hard and stayed humble, and now that I’m seeing that happen, it’s taking me a long way.”

For the rest of our Civil Scope interview, we caught up with “The Plan” rapper as he filled us in on his career, his appearance on Sway In The Morning, his new mixtape ’88, performing at SXSW for the first time, and more.
