15 Years Later, Aaliyah’s Legacy Is Stronger Than Ever

It’s been more than a decade since Aaliyah Haughton’s life was claimed in a plane crash in 2001, at the tender age of 22. Today would have marked the R&B singer’s 37th birthday.

She made a name for herself as the princess of R&B and rose to the top of the charts at such a young age. Aaliyah left a legacy!

At the early age of 14-years-old, she was already a star in the music world even before she was out of her teens. Nonetheless, with just three albums under her belt, the “Are You That Somebody” singer become a staple for the millennial music.

Following a successful transition to a more mature stage, the Brooklyn native played a major role in hip hop in the late 90s. Her work with Timbaland and Missy Elliott was one of the most forward-looking movement for hip hop itself.

Aaliyah’s tragedy came to a surprise for many, when her third and most anticipating album One in a Million was soon to arrive before she was sadly taken away.

Fast-forward to today and Aaliyah’s legacy still lives within today’s music and fashion.

Coming up in the 90s, there weren’t many artists who used their soft vocals like she did, and now you see that a lot with today’s musicians and their success.
