The D.C. music scene has come a long way in a short period of years, and it seems to keep growing at a pretty fast pace. From Wale to Goldlink, there are plenty of Maryland natives who are consistently providing us with greatness, with rising artists joining in on the journey to the top.

In the last year or so, Chaz French has made his mark on the D.C. scene, and now his sound is branching out a bit more national.

The MC just recently dropped his These Things Take Time mixtape last month, which was met with a lot of praise from the hip hop community. The raw lyricism and in-depth content matter has quickly become a fan favorite for rap fans, which stems from his adjustment into fatherhood, as well as a near-fatal car crash he experienced in recent years. “As far as music, that’s a part of my music. I mean, I almost died. It’s hard to explain,” he recalls of the incident in our Civil Interview.

During our discussion, Chaz opens up on the making of his recent These Things Take Time tape, the accident, being a father, as well as D.C. culture. Step into the mind of Chaz French on the following pages.
