The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is looking to diversify it nominees this year as they welcome a variety of genres that have dominated popular music since the ’90s. Among this year’s hopefuls are pop icon Janet Jackson, famed vocalist Chaka Khan, and hip-hop’s own N.W.A.

“It’s a wide range,” says Joel Peresman, CEO and president of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “I always find that’s how it comes together, but it’s representative of different people’s definitions of rock.”

This news arrives a few days after Jackson released her eleventh studio album, Unbreakable. The project, Jackson’s first in seven years, features Missy Elliott and J. Cole. The 17-track soundscape is projected to debut at number 1 on the Billboard album charts next week.

The final inductees will be revealed in December, with a ceremony to follow in April 2016.
