In July, Marvel Comics unveiled their line of hip-hop inspired variant covers in which some of our favorite classic rap albums were reimagined with MarvelĀ superheroes. The comic/hip-hop crossover was well received by their muses and fans alike. And, yet again Marvel pays tribute to the art form with four new covers that draw inspiration from Drake, Missy Elliot and more. This comes as more and more references to the world of hip hop and rap are brought into the comic universes across the board, with many seeing parallels in the DC vs. Marvel comic books. None have been quite as exacting as these covers, however, with their direct inspiration credited and clear to see no matter who you are.

Their latest installment is a push for greater diversity in the comic world. “We want to be authentic, and we’re taking steps,” Marvel Editor In Chief Axel Alonso told MTV News. In addition to the limited edition hip-hop covers, Marvel has also made major changes to their roster of characters and writers. The most recent additions are an Asian-American Hulk and talented writer Ta-Nehisi Coates as the writer of “Blank Panther.”
