Spike Lee, a man who hasn’t been afraid to speak his mind about lack of diversity in several award shows, recently got the news that he will have his very own golden trophy.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, (August 25) the East Coast filmmaker was surprised to hear that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, will present him along with Debbie Reynolds and Gena Rowlands, honorary lifetime achievement awards.

All three awards will be presented at the academy’s 7th Annual Governors Awards on Saturday, November 14th.

Lee’s outstanding work has been in the making for more than 30 years and this lifetime achievement award couldn’t have come in better timing.
