Straight Outta Compton has been the talk of the town since it’s release Friday, August 14. In fact, the film did so well that it came in number one at the box office it’s opening weekend.

Countless publications have begun to dissect and explore the lives of the individuals responsible for one of hip-hops most notable group. Keith Murphy of Vibe magazine penned a piece titled Eazy-E: The Ruthless Life of An American Gangsta where he explore the impact N.W.A. had on society.

In the piece, some notable individuals speak on Eazy-E’s impact on his son, his family, and most importantly hip-hop.

Throughout rap’s 40-plus year run, no one else, for better or worse, personified the genre’s hustler-gone-legit trope more than Eric Wright. His DNA is everywhere: from James Prince (Rap-A-Lot) and Brian “Baby” Williams (Cash Money Records) to Shawn “Jay Z” Carter (Roc-A-Fella), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (G-Unit) and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, founder and CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, the label home of acclaimed hip-hop golden child and Compton native, Kendrick Lamar.
