Taylor Swift is in a new place, a new head space, and now has a new friend that she wasn’t always on friendly terms with.

The 1989 singer recently opened up to Vanity Fair on a slew of topics, but one of the more stand-out conversations came when speaking on how she made up with Kanye West following his infamous microphone-snatching incident at the VMA’s.

T-Swift remarked on reconciling with the Chicago rapper, and revealed that it was more from the help of Jay Z that led her to make amends with him.

She told the outlet of the situation, “I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time.”

She also talked about female friendships in the industry, and their importance, stating, “When you’ve got this group of girls who need each other as much as we need each other, in this climate, when it’s so hard for women to be understood and portrayed the right way in the media…. now more than ever we need to be good and kind to each other and not judge each other.”
