Soundcloud Inks Royalty Deal With Over 20,000 Indie Record Labels

After some drama with Sony and music publishing rights, Spotify has taken a new approach at staying ahead of the curve when it comes to music streaming. The popular streaming service has teamed up with Merlin to host music from artist that belong to about 20,000 different independent labels. A similar deal was made with National Music Publishers’ Association for the Berlin based company.

“Independent creators have always been at the core of SoundCloud, and with this partnership we’re thrilled to extend new revenue-generating opportunities to thousands of independent labels,” Alexander Ljung, one of the founders of SoundCloud, said in a statement.
