After months and months of deliberation, combined with a stringĀ of headaches, former NFL star Aaron Hernandez has been found guilty of 1st degree murder to 27 year old landscaper and semi-pro football player, Odin Lloyd. The verdict was announced early Wednesday morning (4/15).

Hernandez was also found guilty on four other charges: 1) carrying a firearm without a license; 2) carrying a large-capacity firearm (2 counts); 3) possession of ammunition without FID card; and 4) possession of firearm without FID card. All four of those charges, in addition to the 1st degree murder, will have the once NFL star spending the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole.

The victim in this horrific crime, Odin Lloyd was shot six times in the middle of night on June 17th, 2013, and during the trial, it never became clear as to why the shooting happened or what the motive was. The defense pinned the shooting on Hernandez’s friends Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, whom were reportedly present at the crime scene and will go to trial at a later date.

The police zeroed in on Hernandez immediately following the shooting because when they found Odin Lloyd’s body, he had a key to a car that Hernandez had rented. Then once it went to trial, prosecutors presented a wealth of evidence that Hernandez was with Lloyd at the time he was killed, including home security video from Hernandez’s mansion, witness testimony and cellphone records that tracked Lloyd’s movements. The rest is history.

Aaron Hernandez was once a top 5 Tight End in the NFL and signed a hefty $40 million dollar contract with the New England Patriots not too long before the shooting took place. He was a staple in the Patriot’s offense and he had the potential to be a star since he’s only 25 years old.

Our thoughts go out to Odin Lloyd’s friends and family and may he rest in peace.
