Rapsody Speaks On Collab For Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Complexion (A Zulu Love)’

North Carolina based MC Rapsody sits down with Mikey Fresh at Vibe‘s headquarters, and goes into depth about being apart of Kendrick’s To Pimp A Butterfly album. In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t listened to the album yet, Rapsody collaborated with K. Dot for his record “Complexion (A Zulu Love). “We didn’t talk in-depth about what direction to go in, but he told me the name of the song “Complexion.” You know, African-American, black people in America,” she says. “I was in D.C. and I wrote that verse that day. 9th drove up, and we went into the studio and recorded it that night.” She didn’t get a chance to listen to the finalized version until the album dropped, and when it did, she was truly amazed.
Rapsody is now working on re-releasing her Beauty and the Beast EP, including three new tracks. “With me being on this Kendrick album, he’s put me on a platform and introduced me to a whole new audience who might not know any of my work. So we just want to reintroduce [Beauty and the Beast] and reintroduce me,” says the MC.
