This summer, A$AP Rocky will be hitting the silver screen with a lead role in the Rick Famuyiwa-directed (The Wood, Brown Sugar, Our Family Wedding) film, Dope. While the trailer doesn’t give much away, we can tell you the movie is said to be about a kid who grows up in Inglewood, California during the golden era years of hip-hop.

Dope was a critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival. Main character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore), is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT exams. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being “dope”, to ultimately being himself. Forest Whitaker narrates the coming of age story, starring big names such as Zoë KravitzTyga, Casey Veggies, Roger Guenveur Smith, and more.

June 19, 2015 is when the 115 minute-long film hits theaters. Check out the trailer above, and share your comments below.
