When you guys did the Cosmic Kev and Funkmaster Flex freestyles, your verses really stuck out to me in particular. You were super impressive and 50 even said ‘this is his initiation’ during the Cosmic Kev freestyle. Did you look at it that way?

Kidd Kidd: Well, we did the Funkmaster Flex before we did the Cosmic Kev. I went in really hard on the Funk Flex and it was like, ‘yo, now they gonna wake up, now they gonna pay attention.’ It was like finally they’re gonna see what I’ve been telling them. 50 told me, ‘Kidd, when people see you with me they already gonna think you made it’ and people gotta realize like, I’m still really grinding. So when 50 said this is your introduction he really meant, this is the moment everyone else is gonna see what we already knew was the case.

50 looked like a proud father watching you go in.

Kidd Kidd: You know what it is, it’s because he knows my capabilities. What’s the first thing you heard when Kidd first got with the Unit? “Aw man, this is trash. Aw man, Kidd Kidd’s wack” you know what I’m saying? It didn’t matter what I said on the record and it didn’t matter how much 50 said it — people needed to see it themselves. Every time I rap, I make sure I’m saying something that’s gonna fuck your head up.

Well especially with the industry being so oversaturated these days, it’s important to always stand out.

Kidd Kidd: Exactly, and that’s what made people a fan now with the freestyles because when you on those kinds of stations, what else is there for you to do but listen? You have to listen now. And a lot of that comes from the other fellas too because as a group, people want to hear G-Unit as a whole, so by them opening their ears to hear Tony Yayo and Young Buck and Lloyd Banks — you gotta hear Kidd Kidd that way too.

Speaking of the rest of the group, can we expect a G-Unit album this year after The Beast Is G-Unit?

Kidd Kidd: I hope we can get a G-Unit album out there soon. I know Fif’s album’s coming soon and I really hope we can come with a G-Unit album this year. We recorded like crazy and we have a million songs. Even with The Beast EP, we all got our own picks as far as what songs we want on the project. And I know for a fact that all of us picked this one certain song and the song wasn’t on the EP, man. I’m coming into the front office with picket signs and shit n**ga [laughs]. But nah, the EP is still off the chain. We really did some good music on there. These songs are more fun [in comparison to The Beauty Of Independence]. This EP is gonna solidify like, ‘yeah, we are here. We are back.’
