Raheem DeVaughn is busy at work. With a few days before heading out on the Intimate Truth tour alongside Ledisi and Leela James, no minutes are lost as the crooner is already working on a visual for “Temperature’s Rising.”

It’s hard work that has gotten the R&B veteran to his fifth album, Love Sex Passion, released in the same year as his upcoming 10 year anniversary of his solo debut, The Love Experience. Now, the often humble DC-native is ready to be a little less quiet.

“This album and then the mark of the 10 year anniversary of my first album and this being my fifth album, I’m ready to be loud. I’m ready to let the world know and all the powers that be: hey I’m the shit,” he said during a break from shooting.

In a state of redefining who he is live, Raheem is also tapped into where the genre he loves so much has shifted. The “Queen” crooner agrees with The Dream’s sentiments that R&B is sounding more and more like rap. “We have those phases when we go through ratchet, fight the power and the socially conscious era – everything is kind’ve going back to that,” he explained. “Music is supposed to create defining moments. When you listen to something 20 years from now you remember ‘hey this is this song, I conceived my first child to this song, I danced my first prom dance to this song.’”
