Hip-hop is becoming one of the more prominent genres in the music world, but artists are still seeing lower and lower sales coming from their releases each year. Remember the days back in the 2000’s when it was almost unheard of for the biggest rappers to sell less than a million in the first week?

Nowadays, we applaud some of our favorites for selling just over 100K in the first week, and in 2014, not one hip-hop album went platinum. In 2015, there’s a lot of room for things to turn around with projects yet to be released by Drake, Kanye West, Rihanna, and many more anticipated contenders. However, with Taylor Swift being the only artist to go platinum in 2014, it also doesn’t leave hip-hop fans with much hope for that.
