Cipha Sounds has become a household name at NYC hip-hop radio station Hot 97 over the past decade, but his reign with them has come to an end.

A press release from the station’s publicist was sent out today that simply read, “Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors.”

While many listeners questioned whether Cipha was leaving the station, or if he was terminated, he gave some answers in an Instagram post.

He captioned a photo, showing a change in his “relationship status” with Hot 97, reading, “After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from “it¹s complicated” to “single”. It¹s been an amazing ride – from intern to
weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge. Follow me at@ciphasounds.”

It looks like the host already has future plans that have yet to be revealed, but many of his loyal listeners are wondering what will happen with his and Peter Rosenberg’s Juan Epstein podcast series. Stay tuned as we will keep you updated.
