It’s been roughly five months since Trinidad Jame$ and Def Jam parted ways and according to the Atlanta rapper, it was certainly for the better. TJ dropped his new, free album No One Is Safe this week and his spirits are high, revealing that the perception has been nothing but positive. No One Is Safe includes features from ILoveMakonnen, OG Maco, Problem, and more.

The talks of going independent versus signing to a major have grown popular as of late, but even Jame$, an artist who went through the chokehold of the major label machine, doesn’t fully discredit the big men on campus. “Every person is different. Some people need a coach, and some people are self-taught — they don’t need a coach,” he says in our exclusive interview.

The ATLien touches on the rap scene in Atlanta and his relationship with the newcomers, his plans for 2015, the biggest misconception of being famous, and the reason he wrote the song “Unity” and why it was important to release it now.
